This young man unfortunately died about 3 or 4 years after this article was published due to medical complications from his extreme growth spurt.
Also unfortunate is that this article is wrong in stating that this young man was the tallest man in recorded medical history, because actually the Bible records many instances (including Goliath) of Nephilim (Giant Humans) that were more than 9 Feet Tall so the article should of said "The Tallest man in modern recorded medical history", seeing as ancient recorded medical history (including the Bible) records men that are much taller than this young man mentioned in this article (and the Guiness Book of World Records).

Thank you Levi, I appreciate the input. Wadlow looked like a man, but was just an unfortunate boy, as you say. Giants are fascinating. They found one ten feet tall, well preserved, in 1869 in Onondaga County, New York:

Yep, he only lived to be in his early 20s due to health problems from his condition.
last I heard there was an escavation near Syria which was near where the Biblical Jericho was and they found the remains of several Giants that were over 10 feet tall well preserved and one of them is believed to of been Goliath the Giant slain by the young David.

Here's how Wadlow (wax figure at Ripley's) compares to Yao Ming (Seven feet, six inches), Shaquille O'Neal (Seven feet, one inch) and Kevin Hart (Five feet, seven inches):

Actually, he died of infection. Due to his condition he had very little feeling in his extremities and the braces he wore caused blisters and one became infected without his knowing it.

Shame, I had read that he was a nice, police, gentle guy who just had a medical abnormality.

Cool, Jim! I used to play with the model of the "Spindrift" from "Land Of The Giants", small world! Unfortunately, mine didn't come with Deanna Lund, who you might remember as the plain girl from the show:
