Sean ,
No what I was referencing is not on the fan forum but it dosent mater its still theft.
We have to have Dan and his helpers look  into it. And give us a trial run before they present it to the Over Lords.

No problem  Sean  that was a big problem some yrs back .
So if you work up something for  water mark or what ever  give us instructions  how to use it,
We should be seeing  info from others ?

Maybe I can make or find a tutorial. Doing watermarks honestly isn't that hard and I wouldn't mind showing the club how to do it so we can protect our photos in the future.

Charlie said: That sounds like a plan. put a rough draft up and let us nit pick it?
Charlie,

Obviously any official movement forward on these matters relies on if and only if .....the AFCA group decides to go ahead with some of the ideas I have posed that again were a compilation of my ideas, several that have commented on this thread, and several other members that I talked to on the phone.

Having said that.......and while these matters are only being discussed as "very rough draft thoughts".......A few of us are working off site on a very rough draft of ideas on how to structure the "Knowledge Base" of a fan company, how to format the company page for each fan company, how to insure it is very simple to navigate, and in doing so use hyperlinks, and other methods of cross-linking that I mentioned in a response to Marks several questions, etc.

I called Sean to talk about several topics including his interest in Menominee fans.

The next topic I talked to Sean about was what were his thoughts about how a specific fan company "Knowledge Base" should be structured. As I talked to him about what his ideas were about structuring a "Knowledge Base", I found out that he is very knowledgeable about this topic. I asked him to please send me an email with his thoughts and about what they are currently teaching him in college concerning how to "structure" what we are discussing. Thanks in advance Sean for working on these matters.

As soon as several of the folks I know get a "rough draft" of our thoughts together as discussed in our emails to each other on these matters and it is OK with the upper management of the AFCA .....we might be able to present them to this forum for review, comments, suggested additions or deletions, etc. because again I think we need to give everyone a chance to comment on the aforementioned topics.

Thanks ~ Dan

Charlie,

Why "step out" ?

I think we need your ideas as well as many others.

Thanks ~ Dan

This discussion seems to have gone a bit quiet with no comments for two months. I have been occupied with other things and travelling but, like the Lakeland poet Wordsworth's poem about the daffodils,

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils fans again

I make no apologies for mangling this famous poem of the poet as I too was born in the Lake District, and he's long dead anyway.
The AFCA web site and discussions of possible changes, interested me a lot and I have been musing when in vacant mood. Seems to be happening more often as I age.
So below is a DRAFT proposal merely for discussion which derives from these vacant periods. Not sure why but I feel I may come to regret this but here goes.
A Draft Proposal for a possible new map of the AFCA website which may attract more visitors with more visual meat, may make people understand just what fascinates us in 'old fans' and might make AFCA website  easier to explore by a casual visitor (that's how all of us became addicted after all).
There are some new arrangements around the core of the existing site and some new ideas. Primarily these are visuals. Two new Galleries of fan pictures, one of general interest pictures of antique fans and a second Gallery of Restoration projects (basically before and after photos). The latter to show just how stunningly these fans can be brought back from the dead. Who knows it might start a tsunami of dead antique fans appearing.
For safety reasons, people can submit pictures (or videos) of fans which after vetting will be posted. Of course Members could post them directly.
A couple of new text sections are, firstly a "Lost Fans" section where pictures of fans we knew existed once but no more are posted in the vague hope that someone will say, "Hey, I have one of those". It is poignant to think that they may have disappeared forever.
Secondly (and I am not so sure about this) an unanswered technical questions section, called, "Fan Mysteries" (about fans of course).
All constructive criticisms will be appreciated (I promise). So you have read this far, so...........do your worst!

Pete,

Thanks for all of the ideas in your draft proposal....... Over the past couple of months I have been in contact with 3 board members and a few others in regards to discussing different ideas of organization. Also, Sean sent me a good outline and he and I have discussed his thoughts and I passed those on to George, then you have posted a lot of good ideas in your proposal .......so all in all I think we have the creative juices stirred up to the extent that perhaps a few others will add their thoughts and then the board of directors can take the best ideas and perhaps utilize them.

I was going to draft a skeletal approach and try to conduct a test on a fan company using some of the aforementioned new ideas, but I have other work that got in the way. I think we are getting closer to having a "model" to try, but we might wait a bit longer to see what kind of thought processes your ideas stimulate.

Greg Mauer also has some good ideas and perhaps he can share more of those with us.

I will now scoot the soap box back to the center of the room..........

Dan
