Friends:  Bob Schoonmaker (in Minneapolis) was very kind to sell me his Menominee Stag Horn. I believe that he bought it from Stefan Osdene. The fan was in excellent condition so all I did was clean and polish the japanne. I also painted the black lettering on the badge. Ron Bethoney did his usual excellent work on the brass. The fan runs perfectly and I love the smaller size. I put on some decals for the speeds before I noticed that the speeds are etched into the base so I may remove the decal so that it is as originally made. What do you think?

What do you think? Should I remove the decal?

David,

My opinion is yes, remove the decals.  But you know what opinions are like, right?  I just couldn't stand to see two sets of speed numbers.  Now, how to remove them without doing any damage to the finish.  I'm guessing you could use a hair dryer to soften the decals for removal?

Jim

They'll come off easily enough with a magnifying glass and a very sharp knife to grab the ends of the numbers. I was leaning that way. Now I'm wondering if the numbers on the base were originally painted white so that they showed up against the black. Can anyone point me to some pictures? I really want to get this right.
Follow up:  Decals gone. Came right off no problem.

Beautiful fan! What are the odds of finding  one of those in the wild? :wondering:

I'd say they aren't as rare as other fans but you might expect to pay, unrestored, $1,200 and up for that fan. They are out there but you have to do a lot of looking. The seller of this fan put it on Craigslist and one of my AFCA friends knew I wanted one and called me to tell me about it. I got in touch with the seller through Craigslist (a former AFCA member, Bob Schoonmaker) and we agreed on a price for this and a Jandus C-Frame - another of my wish list fans. Bob has other fans (so he tells me) and he knows a lot of the same people in the club that I know. I hope he'll consider reaching out to me when he is in a selling mindset for some of his other fans. I'm a patient buyer. My wife tells me that we'll have to build another house just so I can have a room to build shelving for all of my fans (I have kept 27 fans and given away about 80 or so). I have two more fans in transit that are being shipped to me from that Iron Ranch Aumann auction. I'm like an drug addict that can't get enough! Thank goodness I have an understanding wife.

That’s gorgeous Dave! For now I’ll have to content myself with my small army of Clamshells. :D

Very cool fan! Where did you get the speed decals? Those look like what my r&m gear back should have. They were probably painted on originally but I don't think that I could pull that off.
