Well, it was cold during the Workshop and an antique heater was cranked up in the Old Fan Barn. Brad Hughes enjoyed some of its warm rays.

Once thing got cranked up on Thursday, Geoff's workshop was full of fans and folks like Tony Kapusta, who inspected the inner workings of an Emerson 1010 motor.

A 2019 Fall Workshop Special: the unveiling of Steve Sherwood' posh vintage Lincoln Mark V from the 1970s. Jerry Bravi, left, and Jim Spurling were impressed. Louis Weedman (center, rear) was, too, but he scurried away to run a fan-related errand.

The strobe light was center stage once John McComas arrives. In Geoff's shop, John uses the light to perfectly balance the blades of an Emerson Silver Swan pedestal fan while Gerry Fisher, left, and Steve Sherwood observe.

Away from Geoff's shop and Paul's shop, over in the patchwork barn, there were plenty of fans to be seen.

In this instance Tom uses a baseplate from an Emerson which already is painted with a flat, black paint. He sets the plate on felt he has cut. Tom lines the inside lip of the plate with two-sided tape he purchased from (if I remember correctly) Hobby Lobby.

Tom sets the felt into the plate inside a new ring, which he also purchased from Hobby Lobby. I believe the ring is 1/8" in diameter, but someone can correct me if I incorrectly list the dimensions.  (He cuts the ring to the proper length for the fan he is refelting.) The felt sticks to the lip of the plate via the tape.  Tom then uses a knife to trim the edges of the felt and secures it in place with clamps.

The finished product.  Once Tom refelts a fan, he typically sits fan base in the plate for a period of time to break the felt in.

Saturday afternoon lunch in the old fan barn is always a treat.  Folks chip with in meal preparation, chopping and cooking vegetables for the meal.  These potatoes, boiled to perfection, would become mashed potatoes. They were part of a meal with fried chicken, beans, fried okra, cole slaw, ice cream pie and other delectables.

Whenever lunch is served at the Old Fan Workshop, Geoff Dunaway pumps the pedals of a player piano in the Old Fan Barn to the delight of attendees who hear -- some for the first time -- vintage tunes.  The music is played from paper rolls that the piano "reads" as they turn from the pumped foot pedals.  Geoff and Linda Dunaway and Paul Graves annually are gracious hosts of the event and are kind enough to allow attendees the use of the workshop space.
