I saw this Emerson 77646-AS for sale. It has this additional number plate on the back.  Has anyone seen this kind of thing before?  Any idea where it may have come from?

That’s a property tag installed by the company , school or place that owned it.  Sometimes they have numbers but sometimes just the name of the company.  Take a look at the GE brass bell I have on BST. It was owned by Philadelphia Electric and has a brass tag on it.
These days they call them asset tags and they’re usually bar codes.

About 10 of my fans have some kind of added tag(s) sometimes just a number -lucky if it's a business or military/government fan (WPA, Army, etc)

Thanks for the responses.  An inventory tag is the term I was looking for — thanks Lane!
Would government or military have more ID on their tags?  And do you guys keep the inventory tag in place or just remove it if you’re restarting it?  This one doesn’t really look that nice like the inventory tag on Lane’s fan, which is really cool.

Thanks for the pictures.  That’s a nice tag and stencil.  I think it adds something to the fan.

It really puts them in historical perspective.

I had a 1950 12" GE Vortalex that had an asset tag of some sort stencilled on the side of the motor housing it was just a 3 digit number and that was it.
I was thinking it could of been a room number for a hospital or a hotel that it might of belonged to at one time, and I had actually asked about it on here once but no one had any ideas as to what the number could of been.

The point is, that asset tags come in all different shapes and sizes and styles.
