I have a Mathes fan which I'm attempting to get the plastic handle off the switch. I've oiled it, pried on it, cussed at it, and it still it resist my coaxing. It has a little white insert on the top of the switch handle that has proven to be as removal resistant as the entire handle. Does anyone know if there might be a screw under the white plug/insert? I'm to far along with this project to risk breaking an original part. I will attempt to attach a photo with this query. If anyone has ever removed one of these please tell me the trick.

Thanks. What is the trick to getting the white cap off? I've tried on and off for two days. It wont budge. Is there some special trick to it? I've soaked it with WD and oil. It still refuses to even move a little.

It’s wedged in there. You’ll need to use a dental tool or very small screwdriver to pry it out.

A PUSH PIN OR A SHIRT PIN UNDER THE EDGE ALSO WORKS TO GET THE WHITE CAP OFF

This might work...

If there is any gap, anywhere, between
the cap and the hole, try quick blasts
of compressed air (directed point blank)
at the gap.

Shroud the switch with a
shop rag while blasting!
If the plug pops out, it'll
be a projectile.
