Here’s my latest catch- a 16” Western Electric Bipolar. The price was quite fair for a fan normally out of my budget. Blade has original patina as many of these WE blades have the bluish tint seen here. I’m thinking c. 1904 with the later brush holders and base, but I could be wrong. Alan Wilms had several of these WE bipolars but I didn't get a chance to pick his brain about dating. This fan is a project fan (needs significant cage work) but it's a nice fan and it ohms out fine. It’s a bucket list fan and one not often seen in the 16” size.

Dang Tom, that is REALLY pretty! Nice grab. I don't think I've seen one with a base quite like that...

Thanks Sean. They are neat tab foot bases typical of WE fans. Would like the ball motor and universal models that came out in c. 1908.

May I inquire about how you found such a rare and desirable fan?

Thanks David and Steve. David-found it through an acquaintance at one of the local swap meets who knew I liked old mechanical things. He's an antique dealer who has sold fans, typewriters, motors, etc. I purchased a Voltamp (Knapp) motor from him as well in spectacular condition.

Thanks Steve. Dennis- here's a better picture of the same brush holders as mine. I believe these are the later ones (post 1902) according to Bill Samek and Steve Cunningham's WE bipolar survey.

I'll send it you Dennis. Edit: Couldn't get it to send to your email so I'll post it here if that's kosher. Moderators, please let me know if this isn't allowed.

I can only imagine who that is. It will need wire but it first needs cage work. Thanks guys, these are such neat early fans.
