After restoring the last Emerson 56666 ventilator I bought, and putting it into service in our greenhouse breezeway, I’m looking for a second one to restore.  Not sure how many of these survived, but I’m putting it out there.  I plan to use it in our 20’s Craftsman home. I would even consider a 16” of the same vintage.  Here are pictures of what I’m looking for.  This is the 12” I restored.  PM me if you have anything you might let go out of your collection.  It will be well cared for.  Thanks, Korey (update 6/30/20)  Found one!  😁

Nice, I have the 16" 9 blade version -really never seen that one, looks like a stamped hub from a 71666

Is it a single bearing fan?

Your problem isn't the thrust bearing, it will be oiling it. Those aren't made to run in a horizontal position.

Nope, it’s a grease cup on the original ventilator fans.  Won’t be a problem with synthetic grease.

The 12" in that catalog is only a 900cfm fan. Won't be a very effective whole house anyway. My 1700sqft had a 36" belt drive fan.

Our house is only 650 sq/ft on the main level.  It will work just fine as we live at 7,220 ft and nights are 45-50 degrees.  If you read my post above, I’m modifying it to run vertically.  I’m just looking for a fan and not being told how it won’t work.  I’m an engineer and machinist with over 30 years experience, I think I can do math and figure it out.  Sorry, just seems like some like to insert their unwanted opinions.

Awesome. Modify something that's survived 85 years instead of finding the one that they made for that application. They made ball bearing fans for a reason. :)

Hmm, replacing two fiber washers for a thrust needle bearing will destroy that antique.  At least it’s not made in China.

Who said anything about China? I run good, old fashioned 1920's American cast iron.

Pretty much all I collect are exhaust fans. I have about two hundred of them. Hence my slight protectiveness of ones on the rarer side. :D

I understand.  It wouldn’t be altered in a way that cannot be change back.  I just want to restore and actually use it.  Love how quiet and long lasting Emerson fans are.  The fan would be in our master bedroom closet, so it would be seen and displayed when not used.  Sorry I got sassy, I realize their are purest when it comes to antique fans.  Hey, at least I’m not turning it into a light fixture. 😂  The China comment was buying a new fan related.

I've got one of these with a steel 6-blade. I want to hang onto it, but since we're on the topic thought I'd show it off.

Louis, that’s a little later model.  Note no vent holes or boss on the motor housing.  Nice piece!  If it was the 56666 model, I would throw some $$$$ at you and see if it would get you thinking.  😁

If it wasn’t 220 volt I would consider it.  House wiring is all redone, and it’s setup for 120 volt on the attic access.  I’ll be patient, something will surface.  😁

Still looking and thinking a 16” fan would work as well.

Found the exact same model and only a couple hundred difference in the serial numbers!  😁.  Very happy!
