Hey all, hoping for some help with a motor mystery.

I adopted a Vornado B38C1-1 that I found on the side of the road a few years ago. The motor hummed when I tested it, but the blades didn't spin, so I took it apart to clean and oil the bearings. I got the rotor spinning nicely in the front bearing. However, now I'm trying to put the motor back together and the shaft (or axel?) will only go into the back bearing about a 1/4" before it gets stuck. It won't slide in all the way or spin once it's in that first 1/4".

Has anyone ever come across this before? I'm so nervous that I may have banged it up when I was taking it apart.
