Notice the switch states "Patent Applied For." The Hubbell switch patent was issued in Feb. of 27. This dates the fan between the years of 1924-26. https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/11/f7/96/c1a14d981b0507/US1617521.pdf ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Here is what is special with this Galvin stationary example, the owner did not lose the brass washer maintenance tag on the back. I have yet to see one of these on any of the posted examples. Anyone else have one? Attached Image (viewed 311 times): Last edited on Mon Jul 6th, 2020 07:06 pm by Russ Huber |

I had what was probably the same or similar Galvin. I think mine had an inline switch on the power cord. It had a single bearing like an Emerson but a set screw blade that attached to the motor shaft. There was no "Grease" washer like on your example. Very nice to see that Russ.

Electrical trade appears to first mention the Galvin oscillators on the market that infringed on the Emerson oscillator adjustment case in 1925. I was only able to nab a book snippet to validate this. Merchandising Week - Volumes 33-34 - Page 5065books.google.com › books books.google.com › books 1925 - Snippet view Found inside – Page 5065 The Galvin Electric Manufacturing Company, 3320 South Broadway, St. Louis, Mo., is announcing a new line of electric fans. This new line includes 10-in. non-oscillating, a.c., one-speed fans, 10-in. oscillating universal 3-speed models, 14-in. oscillating a.c., and ...

Unless someone comes forward with a Galvin oscillating fan with the Galvin patented oscillator that infringed on Emerson, without the "Patent Pending" on the badge, it appears they were on the market for 25-26 seasons. And there is the possibility of 27?? The court case Emerson vs. Galvin is dated for May of 27. https://casetext.com/case/galvin-elec-mfg-co-v-emerson-elec-mfg-co ![]() ![]() ![]()

If you think about it, Emerson would have been royally pi$$ed off with Galvin in 24 taking advantage of upgrading their 9" Junior new to the market in 22. Galvin added an inch to make 10"s to a brass blade rather than the Emerson 9" steel wing with brass paint. To throw salt on the wound the Galvin concern the following year of 25 places a patented oscillating fan on the market with the same adjustment principle as Emerson's adjustment case patent filed in 19. Galvin with little doubt thought they had the edge over Emerson being that the consumer could adjust oscillation sweep with a wafer on top of the gearbox with fan in operation. Emerson fans required adjusting the case from under the gearbox preferably with the fan powered down. Thus Galvin got the wrath of Emerson when they dared to patent the operating principle of the patented Emerson adjustment case. By 27-28 Emerson's patent infringement litigation had Galvin marketing pot metal gear boxes. In 29 the market crashed and Galvin got absorbed by KM in 32. Mark, please feel free to post pictures of your Galvin find and questions here. That is how we all learn. That switch of yours has my curiosity up. ![]() ![]() Last edited on Fri Oct 9th, 2020 03:56 am by Russ Huber |

Noah Britt wrote: Guests aren't able to post on threads that were started by someone else. They can only start new threads. Thanks. That's a shame, I am unaware of such things being a long term member. He never sent another PM back that he could not post here. I get a fair amount of messages asking for help be it PM or email. I don't mean to be rude, I just want people to bring it to the forum where everyone can learn.
