I'm a novice and attempting to clean-up and restore the GE fan attached (NO. W 101399). These have been completed: removed oil grease, oil and wicks, and replaced with new. Updated wiring to the motor and plug. After partial assembly, I tested and noticed motor was slow in responding so I gave the shaft a hand twist to assist. The motor ran, I was able to adjust the speeds no problem. My assumption is that the motor should NOT need a hand boost so upon closer inspection some of the washers on both ends of the drive shaft (??) have decayed. My questions:
1. Is there an assembly diagram available to ensure proper washer placement of all washers that belong on the shaft?
2. What type of washers and specs do these need to be? (I have access to a machine shop and numerous helpful hardware stores.)
I am open to all advice and constructive criticism.

Thank you

They should be fiber washers (typically red) . The combination on front and rear of the rotor shaft can vary, but the rotor must be centered on the stator when they’re properly installed and there should be around 1/16” front to rear shaft play if you grab the blade and push and pull it slightly.  It often takes several attempts to get it right.

I hope that helps you.

Just pull it apart and measure them. It’s gotta come apart anyhow to install them.   I think 5/16” ID but not positive.  McMaster Carr has them.
