I have 2 of these, and a couple 1153's (12" version)Some have top oilers, others do not - - one has a 6 wing blade, the other 4? Top oiler a later mod or earlier?
Would the top oilers use grease or oil? Seems like the oil would just drain away, one had felt wading in the cup.

Those look like grease/vaseline cups?
When the vaseline got warm, it would seep into the bearing?

Hopefully an expert will chime in soon!

The old catalogs call for vaseline - - just wondering why/when they changed - - 1899 GEs had a top oiler on the front & switched to a bottom version in 1900.

The pre-1910 Marelli I have is vaseline cups, but it is Italian, and they were some years behind US makers at the time.
Pretty cool though! Don't see those on fans much!

I have a (sold) Merelli - - 1916 or so, cups were full of grease, not oil
