Is your blade solid brass or a steel blade brass plated?

If you want to just clean the blade without losing the original finish try rubbing with a cloth and WD-40 or non-abrasive waterless hand cleaner.   Maybe use, VERY gently, some 0000 steel wool with the aforementioned products.   If you want the blade to be shiny and polished I can't help you there because I love patina and the original finish.  Your Jandus had a dipped and lacquered finish when new, not polished.
