Hi all, I bought a vintage C&C fan from a estate sale (actually don’t pick it up until Thursday) so haven’t had a chance to see it in person yet but I came across your website here trying to research it. Can someone tell me more about it and what it might be worth? I have no idea if it works or not but seems to be in decent condition for its age. I found some C&C complete fans have sold for a fair amount so hopefully this will have some decent value. I appreciate your time and any input. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very early, very nice and worth quite a lot. Search this forum and you should find a lot about C&C fans. |

C&C's NY manufacturing address on your tag was present in electrical trade until 88. In 89 electrical trade supports C&C offices at 402-404 Greenwich St. On top of that you tag clearly states 'Fan Outfit'. Your fan motor dates it appears 86-88 and needs a blade. ![]() ![]() Attached Image (viewed 788 times): Last edited on Mon Nov 16th, 2020 05:35 am by Russ Huber |

Like anything else, it's worth what somebody is willing to pay. |

Use a meter and check the segments of the commutator. If there aren't any opens that is a good way to do a quick check to see if the armature has good wiring (still.) |

Anyone recall seeing a C.& C. fan motor tag with the factory address with no mention of a sales office? Pre sales office? ![]() https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/5f/ea/7e/9b5a9f447b188a/US354539.pdf ![]() Last edited on Mon Nov 16th, 2020 06:17 pm by Russ Huber |

Your C & C fan motor was manufactured and marketed in 1888. ![]() |

Some corroboration... Had these tucked away in the Curtis file... from Trow's NYC Directory![]() Russ, I wonder if they weren't alluding to this patent instead... dunno... https://patents.google.com/patent/US354538 And is this possibly what you sought in 7th Post? https://americanhistory.si.edu/lighting/c_choice/choice_3a.htm |

Thank you all for the information, I will check the commutator and wiring when I get it Thursday, hopefully everything is still in good shape. I have seen where a few people make reproduction fan blades for these looking through the forum. They look quite nice when restored so reading up on that. I still have no idea though if this is. $50 fan or $500 fan that I have and how much I should invest in restoring it. Thank you again for the information |

This fan is early and uncommon enough that you should leave as is especially if intending to resell. With this particular condition a collector would prefer the originality over any restoration which looks unnatural on these early bipolar fans. |

Oh man, here we go with the bling Vs "Patina", but you guys must admit these super early examples shouldn't be "restored" to as new condition. Or not. |

I saw it on ebay this morning now it's gone and I can't find it anymore. I believe it had a $2,400 BIN on it. |

If not, you have a nice early fan well worth displaying proudly in your home. Yes, there are members here that could reproduce a nice reproduction blade for you. The reproduction brass blade could be oxidized to give it an aged patina to match the rest of your fan. The fan is certainly worth every penny you would invest in it. I hope this helps with your investment concerns. You can carefully clean up the fan motor itself retaining its patina. It is not necessary that it runs or not. Enjoy your toy. Maybe the original seller sold the fan on ebay and a flipper bought it?? I love the motor but getting a proper fan for it might prove difficult. |
