Hi Everyone I am new to this forum and new to the antique fan world. I bought this antique GE oscillating fan and would like to restore it. I started to take it apart and am already stuck. Can someone give me some direction on how to disassemble the oscillator gearbox pictured below? Thanks!
The gearbox does not come off but opens up from the top. Remove the two screws on the cover than unscrew the brass lobed knob which will withdraw the cover. The oscillator disc under the gearbox is pressed on and made of pot metal on your fan. I'd recommend you don't try to remove it but work around it. The large brass "screw" on the side of the gearbox helps retain the shafts inside the gearbox. If it needs to be adjusted there is a set screw keeping it from turning and that setscrew is located down INSIDE the hole where you removed the right cover screw (looking from the back.
So does the brass lobed knob come off? Is it threaded? I guess my issue is getting the brass lobed knob out. I tried unscrewing it but I didnt want to put too much force so I dont accidently break anything. Thanks
