I'm thinking 1930's, 1940's.  Two speed shaded pole with Nichrome speed coil under the switch.

No, I can't validate it, but that motor housing reeks of Stancor. On top of that, Stancor had a knack for classing up a cheaply constructed fan. I think they even did better with tin than Gilbert and Bersted.  
What is another distinct characteristic of Stancor? A missing ID badge.  :D

Chicago Electric (Handy-Breeze-Sterling-etc. trademark) is another possibility. Mike Kearns may have old newspaper advertising or ephemera.
