Here’s some pics of this first restore. Fan was in good working condition so really just a clean up and re-lubricate. 77646-AL from 1940 - Base had some rust so I replaced the felt and attempted to blend some new paint on the base using rattle can black lacquer – did 4 coats w/sanding in between. From 5 feet away it’s not bad, but not great close up. I didn’t want to lose all the nice japan that cleaned up. I’ll admit I am just learning good painting practices, so I should have painted the entire base.
I kinda fell into this hobby after another bronze colored 77646 that was a family heirloom quit spinning this summer and I had to figure out how to fix it. Now have 3 new Emerson fans I bought through ebay and are my next projects. Yup, I am hooked. Learning a lot as I go and appreciate help others have provided here.
Next I am looking for some 1920’s pancake style fans to work on. Any advice on some fans and models to look for that are relatively easy to restore and get parts for ?? and which to avoid?

Video of the working fan after cleanup / paint -

Not the shipping I wanted to see.

As I got it

Japan finish is in good shape

These little clamps are great to hold newly glued felt.

Very nice job. I recently bought one of those. They are great fans. I don't think I am going to repaint mine, it's in pretty good condition. mine is a 77646 AS
