Type A d form B last patent June 25 1901. No speed coil but runs cool and fast. Would like to get it back to original as much as possible. Attached Image (viewed 367 times):

This is a 1902 and it would have a 5 speed coil/switch in the back.

The wiring on these fans is very simple. As long as it's in good condition, it should be easy. The biggest issue you're going to have is finding a 5 speed switch for a 1902 pancake, which I believe is specific to this year, and a speed coil/donut for 5 speeds.

thanks for the help and moving my thread too. I seen someone has made the switch body for the switch in base models that can be modded to work but no metal parts come with it. and thought speed coils could be found (not sure of speed no.), any idea's apreciated

For a new speed coil: Sartron Inc. 114 N Main Street Newberg OR 97132 Phone: 503-538-3191 Contact: Tim You don't need a part number - Just tell Tim its for a 12" 5-speed 1902 GE Pancake.  This is an original 1902 coil and switch. Advertise for a new or reproduction 5-speed switch, there are a few (very few) out there.

So basically if i get a speed coil and switch i should be good as fan is running now. Just don't want to add to my expensive dust collectors. Anyone i could send it to if i don't feel like i can get i done. thanks

You can get a switch from Chad Baker at Antique fan parts. The switch stem will have to be modified slightly to work. The chokes from Sartron work great. I believe they are still $75 shipped. A couple of thin metal bands will need to be made to hold the choke to the switch and be secured to the rear motor cover.

thanks Kim should be doable even for me. Due to nerve damage i'm going with the large knob Just found that thread again! 2 screws for the back and all should be good.

No, all soldered connections will be on the other side. That soldered spot is opposite the off position on the switch. The choke coil will have five taps. Sartron numbers them 1-5, with 1 being high. On the 1902 back switch five speed, one tap from the stator will attach to one of the rear terminals, with the other stator tap going to the high position on the switch. This is where the #1 tap from the coil will go also. Then attach the rest of the coil taps to the switch accordingly. Lastly, a wire will attach to the "OFF" position on the switch, with the other end attaching to the other rear terminal.....clear as mud, right?

Pretty clear explanation. Whats a good way to get rid of the base mount ears and what needs to be done to the switch stem? I suppose it's too long on the knob side. i have to find some old pic's of switch i had for a 2 speed back mount i had so not asking the obvious, thanks

I cut off the 'ears' and then put the body in the lathe and clean it up. If that's not an option, clean it up with a file or a Dremel. The stem on the repop switches needs to be shortened and the pointer holder repositioned. That's really the only mods that are needed.
