"links" often don't work (link to) on this forum but you can copy and paste the URL and see the completed auction which I did a few days ago. That will also get you more photos of the fan.

Steve , Thank you, I understand now . That’s interesting. I’ve got one in very similar condition . Mine is a 1010 , and it works . 1,300 seems pretty high .

1120 is rare with only 18 on the survey. 1010 there is a lot more out there.

I was in pursuit of this fan for a long time. Finally found one at the Missouri auction. It's massive, incredibly rare and visually stunning. It's a Tesla era fan and 10 times (or more) rare than a Tesla. I think this is a sleeper and a bargain at that price. The blade (if busted) is not that hard to swap out for a 19648 assuming they are the same and if not........ close enough.

I though the price was quite low myself - - seen "common" GE cakes go for that, it is a bit rough but complete.

What makes this fan particularly desirable ? I mean ... I’d love to have it , but that seems like a lot of dough . I’m somewhat new to collecting . Only been doing it about 10 years or so . I would have guessed about 1/2 of what it sold for . Thanks guys !

Stephen Miller wrote: What makes this fan particularly desirable ?Excellent question. Fan collectors have been trying to figure this out for decades. Some pricy fans are overpriced (in my opinion) and some are bargains (like this one, in my opinion). If I was forced to take a hammer to a Tesla or this Emerson 1120, I'd bust up the Tesla, but it's close. *** Rarity doesn't always equal desirability but it helps a lot. Fans that are common by comparison, sell for as much or even much more. *** Visual beauty is very important and collectors often have their own preferences. The 1120 is massive, a stick mount, ribbed base, early and rare. And, it has the biggest difference between itself and its 12" counterpart. The PI-241 or the 910 are small-ish and proportionately perfect but their big cousin, the 1120, is just a beast and its shear size makes it one of a kind. **** Collectors decide the market however. It is quite possible that most if not all would disagree with the value I put on this model, and say, its comparison to a Tesla. For me, all the important buttons are pushed.

Thank you John Trier , That helps a good bit . Thank you ! I not a experienced enough collector to know the rarity of some of these models . I am learning though . I guess I’m still a tad shocked at the prices some of these bring. Most of my friends are still shocked when they hear me saying that I paid 300-500 dollars for a 100 year old dilapidated fan . A fan of this caliber would really make them worry about me !

I agree with most of the above. I have restored and kept the 16 inch series discussed, both versions of the PI-242's, the 1020, 1120, 1220, 1320, 1520, 1620, 1820, and 2220. But let's not forget the variations like the bracket fans, (1321), and the rare 12 inch variations like the 1011 and the 2010 and 2010A (completely different). I have very few duplicates of these left but have traded quite a few!!! Am still looking to find my first EI-21--- the first Emerson residence fan (1/2 speed 16 inch) from 1900. Anyone have one for trade? Last edited on Sat Dec 5th, 2020 12:32 am by Bill Hoehn |
