So I am starting to work on the Vornado I picked up a few months back. It has a curious thing that leads me to believe its made of different parts. The base has a place for a cord in and switch. The motor had the cord in and switch on the back of the motor. I can weld in a new piece of metal. Not sure about this. The bottom also has a repair that I will weld up better.

I think it originally had a speed coil and two-speed switch in the base. So...the cord would have gone into the base.

For some reason, the coil & switch were removed and wire run directly to the motor. I don't think those speed coils were famous for going bad, so who knows? More likely the switch got broken. Probably the results of an old "DIY Genius".

I think you are right Rod. I am not going to replace the motor but I will put a switch on off only in the base and then I can leave the speed setting on what ever.

So I got the motor back together and it is pulling 1.37 amps on high and 1.04 on low. No tag on the motor so not sure what this one should draw. Any ideas?

If I read it correctly, the tag on bottom says 1.5a. In any case it’s on the id tag on the underside.
