I'm a total newbie to fixing fans. I have the fan in the following pictures. The fan wobbles when it's running; I suspect that the blades need balancing. I've been planning, therefore, to pull the blades and then balance them as I would a lawnmower blade. In the 3rd picture you can see that I've removed the set screws that hold the "nut" to the arbor. Now, how do I pull that "nut" off the arbor. It doesn't appear to be threaded on; simply rotating the "nut" isn't sufficient to pull it off. Feel free to tell me correct terminology "nut" and "arbor" aren't correct. And, if you think the wobble isn't related to the blades, and can offer another suggestion, please feel free to do so. Thanks, -Ken ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ok, I figured out how to pull the blades. See attached pictures. Put a couple of pieces of wood across the back of the frame and attach a couple of F clamps to the underside of the blades near the arbor and to the wood. Tightening clamps pulls the blades off the arbor ![]() ![]()

That's actually called the shaft (the part that the blade mounts to on the motor) and the part that the blads attach to and that holds the blade assembly to the motor is called the hub (or sometimes its called the spider). I take it you collect and restore antique clocks and watches? I ask because those terms you used are terms that are used in the clock and watch repair/restoration world (e. g. winding arbor). As for getting the blade off, a lot of times spraying penetrating oil like liquid wrench or kroil into the setscrew holes and letting it it for a couple of hours and then applying a little bit of heat while twisting the blade while pulling on it (while also holding the motor shaft stationary with a pair of vice-grips) will usually get those blade assemblies off, with very minimal damage. I hope this helps. Levi
