While on vacation my roommate decided that a cloth power cord was a threat to the house and removed all the wiring from the cord ALL the way up into the capacitor to the fan motor...!!! Among other things he did to my home while I was gone, he no longer resides in my home. I don't have a wiring guide or know which wire goes where... Is there anyone out there that might know how to help me...?

I found the speed coil for it. But, ALL three wires have been disconnected. I see where it is supposed to sit, unfortunately I don't even know if it works or where each wire is supposed to be reattached. My multi-tester tested the (3) wires coming off of the fan motor correctly and was able to actually get them correctly connected and configured. Now I have been trying to get any reading off of the Speed Coil. I need a guiding hand to help me figure out what the "Heck" I'm doing wrong...! I'm also uploading Real Time Photos of this messed up project if ANYONE knows even the smallest detail that might just help me get this thing fixed before January 1st, 2023... (LOL) ...

Hi Dan, sorry I have'nt gotten back to you sooner, my computer suffered a hard drive crash and I am attempting a data recovery. I can not see the wires coming off the speed coil in the photograph. I assume that there are three leads in a row. Can you get an ohm measurement from 1-2, 2-3, and 1-3?

I get nothing from them once so ever... And I know that I should get some kind of measurment. Now on to something I might be able to help you with... I'm a retired software engineer... Do you have access to another computer... If so download HBCD (Hiren's boot cd) It can and will solve all your problems with your computer.

Ok I just got another speed coil. I get readings from all three lines... Now do I use the same logic that I use for the run start connections? Meaning hi, med and low?

What reading should I be able to get from the sardine can? Or do I have to wait for power to be applied before I can even get a reading...? And did youy save your drive?

The Sardine Can is a Motor Run Capacitor, you should be getting about 2 or 3 MFD out of it in the capacitor setting if you have that on your DMM.

Dan Cummings wrote: Ok I just got another speed coil. I get readings from all three lines...Yes. The only question is which end is low. I would try the highest resistance from the common or middle leg to the end legs as low, unless the physical construction of the coil indicates otherwise.

I tried the setup but all I got from the fan was a very large humming...So why am I now getting the humming instead of movement from the fan? Do you think that the idiot that took the fan apart and added three (3) new wires from the motor wired those up wrong? And if so why would I get the 3 different, but correct, readings from the ohm meter?

Did the fan ever run since you had it? Are the bearings too tight, does it spin easily by hand? Did you check the capacitor? Is it possible that you made a wiring error? What readings did you get from the new speed coil? I know, a lot of questions, but I am trying to get enough information to go on.
