I picked this fan up as part of a collection I purchased. As many of you know, these 1950s GEs with the rubber grommet are very difficult to take apart specifically the blade removal. There is also the risk of damaging the grommet as they dry out over time. I came up with a solution that doesn’t use those grommets for reassembly. This will work on similar models (FM10***, F11****, F14****). I’ll pried the blades off with a screwdriver and some WD-40. I picked up some 1/4” ID x 3/8” OD x 1/2” L steel spacers and some 10-24 x 3/8” slotted screws from my local ACE Hardware. You will have to sand down the spacer about 1/64” so it will have a snug fit in the blade. Pre-drill a hole in the fan hub with the spacer pressed inside. The blades will be in the way so you’ll need drill bit with with a hex end and an extension. Then tap it with your 10-24 tap. Took me less than an hour to do and it came out great. No wobbling. Makes it much easier for repairs and maintenance and it won’t rot out on you!
To remove the grease I used Goo Gone.
To restore the paint I used Turtle Wax and lots of elbow grease.
