My son just moved to the Northern part of Columbus, Ohio near Hilliard (Upper Arlington) and he has an antique fan that he wants to make functional. The electrical wiring needs to be replaced and he is having trouble finding someone in the area who is willing or able to take on this task. William, I can not see much of the wire to tell the condition but you certainly will be needing a new blade. I'm in Va. maybe a member in Ohio will chime in. Other than that, is shipping it to someone to have it done. I honestly think its not that hard of a job to do, your son could more than likely do the replacement. Westinghouse 16PA2 is a great daily runner. Powerful yet quite. Tony

Thanks, Tony. My son has good mechanical skills but he was afraid to tackle something electrical for safety's sake. Hopefully, someone in the Columbus Ohio area will see this.

This is a very good fan. I have had one for 40years. It run quiet and dependable. But your blade isn’t going to make it. I can send you a circuit diagram on the wiring, someone needs to have some electrical background to understand. You can check on this Forum for a blade, and also check eBay. On eBay search “ Westinghouse desk fans” Good luck! Malcolm

I live in Elkhart, Indiana which is about 4 hours from Columbus Ohio if you take the turnpike to the Indiana Toll Road and exit off of exit 92 in Elkhart which is Cassopolis Street. I could rewire your fan for you. As for the blade, yes, you will need a new blade. I actually have that same exact fan that I have for sale that is in working order I could sell you if you're interested, and it does work.

Could you give an estimate as to what it would cost to repair the wiring and replace the blade? We could probably ship it to you if it’s a reasonable price. I have no idea what this fan is worth so could you give me an estimate on cost to repair and its value after repair? Thanks.

Greetings! Rewiring the fan, wouldn't be too costly, are you needing the power cord replaced or the head wire replaced or both? Because on my fan like yours the power cord was in good condition yet, but the headwire was crap (the outer cloth wrapping was deteriorated and the inner cloth insulated wires were beginning to fray so I replaced the original headwire with some reproduction cloth wire I had found at a place called Merry Tunes which is a place that sells NOS and Reproduction antique radio parts, and they happened to have some NOS 3 conductor cloth wire there that was the same color scheme as the original wire in this fan except that the conductors were of the tinsel type rather than the stranded type, but it worked (the wire was intended to be used for old radio speaker wiring from the 1920s radios). Anyways the fan blade however may just need to be replaced because these types of blades known as "quiet blades" are very hard to put back into balance if they've been damaged, one could probably repair the damage with epoxy or bondo (seeing as these are "plastic" blades) but then the trick would be trying to get that repaired blade back into balance with the rest of the blades. If you were to find another blade assembly for this fan I could tell you how to install it, and as for rewiring the fan, like I said I would need to know what needs to be rewired, so I could tell you if I need the whole fan or if I need only part of the fan. If you do decide to send it to me, make sure you take the blade and cage off and and take the motor off and pack it separately, and just keep the blade and cage. Because I don't need those to rewire the fan.
