How big a spark? Pretty much every switch on a fan will throw a small spark when you shut it off. The one that is impressive is the three speed knife switch on an older Emerson 77 or 79 series, you turn those from low speed to off and you'll see a nice fat spark. That's normal on those fans though.

Well it's not small but not too big either. it did stay glowing until it hit the counter.

That's more that I usually see, I'm used to seeing a little arc around the contacts. Is the switch clean inside?
