hello i was working on the 16inch vorty awhile ago and the dang ring that goes into the back of the shaft doesn't stay in place

Looks like there's a circlip in there. It sits in a little groove inside the brass piece. If everything isn't seated right, it probably won't expose the groove enough for the clip to snap in. Take all the bearing pieces out, clean everything up real good and put them back in in the same order they came out originally, then gently press them in with a socket that's the same size as the inner diameter of the brass housing. If everything fits right, the circlip groove should be visible and the clip should just pop in when squeezed with clip pliers.
