This is an ILG fan dating to the late '50s, but the design dates back to the teens of the last century. My 'men's drinking club with a singing problem' has dealt with Covid by requiring everybody who comes to our building to be vaccinated and by improving the ventilation to achieve 5 airchanges/hour.
The gouty old fan needed to be coaxed to run by poking the fan blades with a pencil stuck through its safety grille. Most folks were unwilling or unaware of this work-around to cope with dried-up lubricant or failed capacitor or dirty start contacts.
I bought a new 3PDT toggle switch, sourced the wiring diagram from Andrew B of thIs forum, and wired it up. $30. + about 12 hours frustrating and injurious* work.
Turns out, probably, that all I need to do is take the motor apart, clean out the old lubricant, relubricate and reassemble.
I plan to build a rolling/portable mounting box and exhaust my basement woodwork shop while disturbing the dust of of 26 years of projects with a leaf blower...
I now have a room-sized air filter with HEPA filter elements, so the 'big blow-out' ought to be a one time affair. *Injurious means that I did a face plant while overreaching for a dropped screw; sheesh!
