Looking for the plain hook that screws into a wood beam to hang an old Hunter Original. If you have that little beast, let me know. I do not want the newer styles of Hunter mounting hardware. Thanks!

Ken, I go by the hardware store and buy modern hooks. Then I open the throat to take the rubber hangers. I install the hook, then hang from it. If it'll hold me, it'll hold a heavy fan.

All we have available here are puny hooks that are zinc plated over crap and made in Franistan. Even though the weight limit is printed as 50#, I would not want to be sitting under a Hunter held by one of those. I'm going to hold out for an antique one made from heavy steel.

I've seen some decently robust J-hooks at smaller hardware stores. They seemed to be about as sturdy as the Hunter hooks. Home Depot (or similar) has never had ones I was really satisfied with. I would love to find a supplier of J-hooks that are big enough to fit the antique porcelain hangers. As of now, all I have for antique ceiling fans are the original hooks that were with some of the fans I found.

There just has to be some company out there that makes that type of hook. The smaller hooks are OK for the 36" Originals but I don't trust them at all on a R-52.

Ken, You might want to try a U-Bolt of course you'll need to secure a 2x4 or 1x4 up there to secure it too but, you wont find a U-Bolt bending or breaking. I have done this in the past and it never fell even with my mother-in-law standing under it.

Tom, I bought a 36" Hunter back in the early 70s that came with that exact hook. I guess Hunter had trouble finding a robust hook, so they used a modified wood screw.

What are you looking for? the small hook which was used on the Hunters in the 70's and 80's with the rubber spool or the large hook used by all old ceiling fans. I have them both. Do you want just the hook or what? Leon Brown
