Definitely functional but is it a one off or after market?

I think GE made a bunch of thiose with handles like that. They where just painted the same as the rest of the fan. What you have is the newer style after the cast iron type.

The handles on the 16 inch fans were introduced post 1940. This one appears to be a 1947 or 48 with catalog number FM16V1.

Here is a couple pics from the one I found.    The handle was black when I got it with original paint.  Repainted now.

Wow it looks like it just popped out molding sand, threw me. Thanks for the G.E. link, somewhere i have a blue DC vorty that i need info on.
